There are several versions of LTO tape, known as LTO-1, LTO-2, LTO-3, LTO-4 and the latest LTO-5 which nearly doubled the capacity of data to 1.5 TB (1500 GB).
For security purposes it is recommended that the data on LTO tapes is erased prior to disposal. Simply overwriting the LTO tape is possible but will take several hours. VS Security Products offer a range of LTO degausser equipment which is the best solution when you need to completely erase the data held on LTO tape.
NOTE: By using an LTO degausser the LTO tape cannot be reused because the magnetic servo signals which are pre-written on the tape will be removed.
